Organized the free South Africa Movement and the Nelson Mandela welcome in the African American community 30,000 attended.
In 1980-81, as head of Miami’s S.C.L.C. chapter, he led the successful campaign to register 10,000 new voters, also organized the first effective protest march and demonstration on the notorious Krome Avenue Detention Center in Miami where Haitian immigrants were being herded like cattle and held without due process.
Reverend Fauntroy was one of the principal organizers of a march in Miami which brought 50,000 people into the streets advocation for fair treatment of Haitians by the U.S. government. He was a participant advocate in a lawsuit winning the right to enter the Krome Detention Center to pray with and assist Haitians being held there.
Reverend Ray Fauntroy believes that all human beings “have a spiritual and moral obligation not to cooperate with our own demise” and “we should do unto others as we would have them do unto us.”
